Campus Partners

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) emphasizes establishing partnerships throughout the campus community. The OEM actively collaborates with numerous campus departments and stakeholders, tailoring their involvement based on the type and scale of the emergency. While the following list is not exhaustive, it provides a sample of some of the campus partners with whom the OEM collaborates:

  • SMCCCD Leadership: Working alongside District and Campus Leadership ensures effective emergency management and response efforts. 
  • Facilities: Collaborating with the Facilities Department ensures effective campus infrastructure and resources management during emergencies.

  • Department of Public Safety: Working alongside campus law enforcement and security personnel enhances safety and security measures during emergencies.

  • Student Affairs: Partnering with this department helps address the needs and well-being of students during emergencies, including providing support services and communication.

  • Health Services: Collaborating with Health Services ensures necessary medical assistance and emergency support.

  • Information Technology Services: Working with ITS helps maintain and restore critical technology systems and communication channels during emergencies.

  • Academic Departments: Collaborating with various academic departments assists in addressing the safety and educational continuity of students and faculty during emergencies.

  • Public Information Office: Collaborating with the Public Information Officers facilitates effective communication with the campus community and the public, disseminating essential updates and instructions during emergencies.

Local Partners

  1. San Mateo County Department of Emergency Management (SMC DEM): The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) coordinates countywide preparedness, response, and protection services and activities for large-scale incidents and disasters. DEM is responsible for alerting and notifying appropriate agencies within the county's 20 cities when disaster strikes; coordinating all agencies that respond; ensuring resources are available and mobilized in times of disaster; developing plans and procedures in response to and recovery from disasters; and developing and providing preparedness materials for our residents.
  2. San Mateo County Health Department (SMCHD): As a county health department, we administer public health programs and provide clinical and supportive services to the community.
  3. American Red Cross (ARC): The American Red Cross, also known as the American National Red Cross, is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, and disaster preparedness education in the United States.

These partnerships foster a comprehensive and coordinated approach to emergency management on campus, enhancing the overall response and recovery efforts.
