Environmental Health & Safety

Our Mission

We support and advance the educational mission of the San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD) by promoting a safe and healthy campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and community members. We provide and coordinate programs and services that minimize safety, health, environmental, and regulatory risks in a manner consistent with fiscal and environmental stewardship.

Our Values

We are committed to applying the highest professional practices and standards.

  • We treat the richly diverse and multicultural community of the SMCCCD with professionalism, sensitivity and respect;
  • We promote a trusting and candid workplace environment through teamwork and mutual support; and
  • We encourage the development of professional and personal growth and integrity.

We will provide quality services to our community by:

  • Understanding individual needs
  • Recognizing and defining our roles and responsibilities
  • Empowering and requiring accountability of our staff, and
  • Measuring our effectiveness.

Our Vision

Responsibility for health, safety and environmental protection will be an integral performance requirement of all employees and students of the District. Our services will be seamless and respected throughout all areas of the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) domain, particularly within the safety community, and will be nationally recognized as a model of health and safety partnership. We will create and maintain a flexible and supportive work environment in which we can achieve our full potential, freely express ourselves, engage in team-based decisions, recognize and celebrate our achievements, acknowledge and address our shortcomings, and welcome change as a mechanism of continual improvement.
