SMCCCD Study Abroad offers a portfolio of innovative study abroad programs for academic credit and not-for-credit in several countries. We live in a globalized culture and economy, yet it can be difficult to really comprehend the world beyond our borders. In order to thrive in the modern workplace you will need to think and act with a global perspective. Whether you are looking to study for a semester abroad, short-term or enroll in not-for-credit educational travel tours, SMCCCD Study Abroad offers something for students and the San Mateo County Community.
Since 1986, SMCCCD Study Abroad has participated in the Northern California Study Abroad Consortium (NCSAC) to offer semester-long study abroad programs in various European destinations. Courses are pre-articulated with the University of California and California State University systems to ensure transferability and are taught abroad in English by American Community College professors.
Short-Term Study Abroad Programs
Our Short-Term Study Abroad Programs are credit-bearing, transferable courses designed by SMCCCD faculty and are usually two weeks in length.
These courses are offered during the Summer Session, Winter Break, and Spring break. For many Community College students, who work part-time or full-time, our courses offer the flexibility to experience study abroad with the leadership and guidance of experienced SMCCCD faculty.
A new addition to the SMCCCD Study Abroad portfolio is Global Internships. These opportunities are designed for you to gain international work experience in a supervised internship. We have partnered with two leading not-for-profit organizations, EUSA and the Academic Internship Council, to develop our Global Internships as an academic credit internship program. The services include internship placement and supporting services including housing, program management, academic courses, and cultural excursions.
International Transfer - Campus France
The new transfer abroad program, Campus France, is an international transfer opportunity for business students in the San Mateo County Community College District to transfer and complete their Bachelor’s degree in France at the Rennes School of Business .
This program offers an intense year of business specialization and intercultural immersion. The specialized courses are accompanied by a broad range of General Management classes relevant to all tracks. Students will develop both concrete specific knowledge of management and invaluable intercultural skills to operate in a variety of international contexts for their future career.
Explore the world and make a difference in a student’s study abroad experience through our Community Travel Program. Designed as not-for-credit, the Community Travel Program offers educational travel tours around the world for the San Mateo County Community and beyond. Led by SMCCCD staff or faculty volunteering as Travel Ambassadors, the purpose of the Community Travel Program is to serve as a scholarship fundraiser for SMCCCD students applying to study abroad in our Semester-Long and Short-Term Study Abroad Programs. A portion of your program fee goes directly towards student scholarships for study abroad and is tax deductible. The San Mateo County Community College Foundation provides tax deductible documentation to all participants in the Community Travel Program.
