The influence and large presence of Asian immigrants and an Asian American population in the San Francisco Bay area, the strong economic interest of U.S. business and industry in Asia, and the importance of the unprecedented growth in the economy and global influence of Asia have created an increased demand for graduates who not only can speak Asian languages but possess an understanding and know-how of Asian cultures and business practices. The study of Asia is critical to sustaining our economic well-being, opening new markets, embracing cultural diversity, and enhancing America’s competitiveness which is critical in today’s interconnected world.

With the assistance of the Title VI A grant from the Department of Education, the  Asian Studies Program is designed around the needs of our students, our community and global economic trends. We seek to strengthen the accessibility and innovation of the Asian Studies Program in order to enhance program offerings and meet the increased demand for Asian Studies.  The Asian Studies Program will build bridges across disciplines, across cultures and between East and West business and social cultures through language, culture and commerce.
