As stated by the U.S. Department of Labor Employment Development Department Labor Market Information forecast employment opportunities for massage therapists to grow by 18 to 26 percent from 2004-2014. According to the 2006-2007 Edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau, employment opportunities for Massage Therapists will increase 18 to 26 percent during the period of 2004-2014. Among the reasons for the growing demand for Massage Therapists is the increasing acceptance of massage therapy as a medical tool. A primary force driving the growth of the Massage Therapist occupation is the broader acceptance of alternative medical practices. Younger Americans appreciate the effectiveness of massage at reducing stress through relaxation and older Americans experience the therapeutic benefits and the contribution of massage to overall health. The willingness of medical providers and insurance industries to recommend and cover the costs of massage therapy is another growth factor thus encouraging the demand for Massage Therapists.
