Through its sustainability initiatives, SMCCCD aims to advance environmental stewardship, strengthen its commitment to social equity and citizenship, and embody fiscal responsibility within the college and community. This commitment to sustainability has not only resulted in substantial cost savings and reduced operational expenditures, but also improved the quality of the physical environment that supports and enhances the instructional mission of the colleges.
In the 2012-13 academic year, this commitment to sustainability led Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College to create a Sustainability Plan. Each campus’ unique plan establishes goals for campus and community involvement, curriculum, the built environment, energy efficiency, water and waste management, transportation and procurement. These living documents outline a vision for sustainability and provide a blueprint for implementation at each college.
Cañada College will be a model for environmental sustainability, inspiring and empowering our community to implement sustainable practices and promote social equity.
College of San Mateo will be a model for sustainability, inspiring and empowering our community to implement sustainable economic and environmental practices and promote social equity in all aspects of the college’s mission and operations.Sign up for the Monthly CSM Sustainability Committee Newsletter here!
