What are the Club hours?

San Mateo Athletic Club is open to Members and Guests: Monday through Friday: 5:30 A.M. - 10:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M.

The Membership Office is open: Monday through Thursday: 9 A.M. - 8 P.M. Friday: 9 A.M. - 5 P.M. Saturday: 9 A.M. - 3 P.M.  Sunday: 9 A.M. - 2 P.M.

How much are the Club Membership rates?

To learn about our rates for Members, please call the Club and speak to a Membership Representative at (650) 378-7373, or stop by the Club for a tour.

Are there any additional fees?

Additional fees will be assessed for personal training, small group training, special classes and the use of Pilates apparatus. There will be no additional fees assessed for Yoga, indoor cycling and Pilates mat classes.

Do I qualify for Faculty or Staff Membership?

Faculty or Staff Membership rates will be extended to individuals who are employed within the district at one of the following campuses: College of San Mateo, Skyline College and Cañada College.

Do I qualify for Senior Membership?

Senior Membership rates will be extended to individuals who are age 62 or older.

If I turn 62 within the year, will you adjust my Fees?

Please speak to our Membership Services staff when you turn 62 to initiate the change in your Membership Fees.

Do we qualify for Senior Couple Membership?

Senior Couple Membership rates will be extended when one individual is a Senior and the other is not. Membership is limited to couples who are married or who are domestic partners. It does not apply to a Senior and another adult living in the same household. Proof of residence is required.

Do I qualify for Student Membership?

Student Membership rates will be extended to students who are currently enrolled in a minimum of six (6) units per semester at one of the following campuses: College of San Mateo, Skyline College or Cañada College.

How is student enrollment verified?

Students must present a current registration schedule to qualify for Student Membership. San Mateo Athletic Club will periodically cross-reference Student Memberships with the college enrollment system.

Do we qualify for Student Couple Membership?

Student Couple Membership rates will be extended when one individual is a Student and the other is not. Membership is limited to those couples who are married or who are domestic partners. It does not apply to a Student and another adult living in the same household. Proof of residence is required.

Do we qualify for a Family Membership?

Family Membership rates will be extended to households with two adults, plus two children/dependents, between the ages of 15-22 and living at home. A fee of $15.00 per month will be assessed for each additional child. Children between the ages of 15-17 must be accompanied by an adult unless enrolled in a supervised program.

Does the Club offer ‘Aquatics Only’ Memberships?

The Club does not offer ‘Aquatics Only’ Memberships. Guest day passes can be purchased by nonmembers for the purpose of working out or lap swimming. Guests must be over the age of 18 and present a valid photo I.D. All Guests are required to sign a liability waiver.

Are there options to “freeze” Membership for special circumstances?

“Freeze” options for special circumstances are defined in the Membership Agreement. The options start at a two month minimum.

Are students allowed to use San Mateo Athletic Club?

We are an extension of the campus and an active classroom whereby classes for students are held on our fitness floor, in our pools and our group exercise studios. At times this means that some of these areas will be shared with students and at other times, areas may be reserved for students only.

Transportation and Parking:

I am visiting San Mateo Athletic Club, where should I park?


How does the Club accommodate parking?

One 12-month parking pass ($90.00 value) is included in all Annual Memberships, whether paid-in-full or billed monthly. Two 12-month parking passes ($180.00 value) are included in all Annual Couple and Family Memberships, whether paid-in-full or billed monthly. After 12 months, parking will be added to your Monthly Club Fee at the rate of $7.50 per month. If you choose to re-enroll on an annual basis, complimentary parking will again be extended . Members who enroll on a Month-to-month basis may purchase parking for $7.50 per month which will be added to monthly club fees. Parking passes purchased or included with membership cannot exceed the number of eligible drivers on the membership. Metered parking spaces are available for $2.00 per day.

Can I access the Health & Wellness Building (Bldg. 5) by bus?

You can access the San Mateo Athletic Club via SamTrans. The bus stop is on W. Hillsdale Boulevard near the District Office.

Only bicycle commuters with a San Mateo Athletic Club Membership may change in the locker room.

Swim:

What are the features of the swimming pools?

San Mateo Athletic Club has two outdoor swimming pools. Our Olympic pool: 50m / 78-80 degrees / maximum depth of 7 feet and our Instructional pool: 25 yards / 86-88 degrees / maximum depth of 4 feet.

We plan to have some lanes available for lap swimming during all hours of operation.

Will College of San Mateo offer swim classes at the San Mateo Athletic Club?

The College will utilize the two outdoor swimming pools for instructional and sponsored programs.

Will a Masters Swim Program be offered at some point in time?

Yes. We offer our 'San Mateo Masters' program for persons ages 19-99. Please contact our aquatics director for information: aquatics@smccd.edu.

Will lanes also be available for San Mateo Athletic Club Members who are not participating in the Masters Program?

San Mateo Athletic Club will make every effort to assure that lap swimming lanes will be available to Club Members who are not participating in the Masters Swim Program.

Is a poolside sundeck planned?

San Mateo Athletic Club has discussed the possibility of a poolside sundeck. No decision has been made at this time.

What chemical treatment is used in the swimming pools?

San Mateo Athletic Club uses chlorine to treat the swimming pools.

Guests:

May guests utilize the Club facilities?

Guests may utilize the Club facilities if they are over the age of 18 and present a valid photo I.D. All Guests are required to sign a liability waiver. When accompanied by a Club Member, the Guest Fee is $15.00 per visit. If not accompanied by a Club Member, the Guest Fee is $20.00 per visit. (If the Guest joins the Club within 30 days, the guests fee paid will be applied to the Registration Fee.) IHRSA Members Fee is $10.00 per visit. Pass usage is tracked by the Club.

Children:

Are children allowed in the Club?

Children 15 and over can be Members of the fitness center as part of a Family Membership but are permitted on the premises only when a parent is present. Children under the age of 15 are not permitted in the fitness center at any time. Children under the age of 15 are not permitted in the pool area except when registered in an age group swim program.

Children under the age of 15 are not permitted in the fitness center or locker rooms. A changing area will be provided for children participating in swim classes.

Is there a Starbuck's or café near the Club?

A coffee shop is located at the top of the stairs in the Health & Wellness Building (Bldg. 5). The shop will offer packaged food, salads and beverages.

What is the environmental design of San Mateo Athletic Club?

As a demonstration of College of San Mateo’s commitment to sustainable building design and construction, the new Health & Wellness Building (Bldg. 5) is targeted to receive LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

Is there access to the Adaptive Physical Education Room?

There will be access to the Adaptive Physical Education Room. The schedule has not yet been determined, but will most likely be in the afternoons and on weekends. During Fall '10 Semester hours of availability for Adaptive P.E. room are as follows:

• Mon/Wed/Fri: Available from 5:30a - 10:00a, also from 12:00p - 10:00p

• Tues/Thurs: Available from 5:30a - 11:00a, also from 12:30p - 10:00p

• Sat/Sun: Open all day! From 7:00a - 7:00p

Will there be circuit classes in the weight room?

Circuit classes are currently offered by College of San Mateo as part of curriculum-based programming. Based on demand, San Mateo Athletic Club may offer circuit classes in the weight room as part of fitness programming.

Does college class enrollment grant access to San Mateo Athletic Club?

Students enrolled in college classes that are held at the Club will be granted access to the Club but only in the area(s) specified for the class.
