Utilities and Waste Management

Utilities expenditures are funded and paid out of the Chancellor’s Office Unrestricted General Fund. The annual Utilities budget is established by the Facilities Department, based on projected usage and anticipated rate tariffs.

  • Gas and Electricity – Natural gas and electricity usage per square foot has been decreasing in the past years, as a result of significant energy efficiency measures.  SMCCCD has adopted Zero Net Energy strategy to power campuses through renewable energy.
  • Water –  Reducing consumption and impoving efficiency are the goals of the District's Water Efficiency Program.
  • Waste - The SMCCCD Zero Waste Program identifies and implements waste reduction and waste diversion strategies to achieve Zero Waste by 2025 and empower students, faculty, and staff to become change agents in their local and global communities.
