Building 7 Allied Health, Modernization & Seismic

Construction Schedule: Pending State Funding Requirements – Tentative schedule is Summer 2007 – Summer 2008

Funding Source(s): Measure C general obligation bond funds, State Capital Outlay funds, State Scheduled Maintenance funds (roofing), State Hazardous Substances funds

Description: Building 7 is a three story building of cast-in-place concrete and was constructed in 1969. This 39,025 sf building houses Science/Math/Technology labs and general use classrooms. This modernization and seismic retrofit project includes renovating the existing electrical and mechanical systems. “Wet” labs will be relocated to the adjacent Science Annex. Floors one and two will be renovated for Allied Health Programs. The third floor will be renovated to accommodate new classrooms and office space. A new single occupancy restroom will be added to each floor. Final approval of the State Funding for the Allied Health conversion is still pending.

Benefits: The modernization and seismic retrofit to Building 7 will create a facility that is in compliance with current earthquake and accessibility codes and that compliments the new Science Annex that will have been constructed directly adjacent to this existing building. The project will remedy the current inadequate ventilation that exists in Building 7. The Allied Health conversion will allow the college to consolidate its current Allied Health programs centrally together with other related science programs and would remove the current programs from portable buildings that are located away from Building 7 and are not conducive to sharing of equipment and support spaces with other related Science programs.
