SKY B1N Social Sciences and Creative Arts Building
A new Social Sciences and Creative Arts Building (Building 1) will be built on the site of the existing Building 1. New construction consists of approximately 115,000 gross square feet, and 6,600 gross square feet of existing building space on the ground floor will be renovated. The facility will consolidate social sciences and various creative arts programs including a new 520 seat performing arts theater, 220 seat recital hall, black box theater, music rooms, ceramics facility, art gallery, design studios, and instructional and support spaces. The work includes demolition of existing Building 1 except the east wing ground floor. The MPOE, boiler plant, and elements of the electrical distribution system located there must remain in operation during the project. The ceramics department and two classrooms will be renovated. Site work includes landscaping, hardscaping, and parking lot reconfiguration around the building, and construction of a broad, inviting South Gateway above the renovated ground floor to the central campus courtyard.
New spaces for Social Sciences classes including Anthropology, Economics, Education, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology.
New spaces for Creative Arts classes including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, film, video, art history, music, theater, and digital art/media.
New spaces for Justice/Paralegal Studies, which prepares students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, criminology, forensic analysis, the courts, paralegal support, and counseling.Improved space for Ceramics.
