Do I need to own a computer to take an online class?

You need access to a computer, but you can always use one on campus or at work. If you work on campus, you will need to purchase a computer lab card at the Skyline Bookstore. Or you can use a computer in Accounting Lab that is located in Room 1-1218.

Do I need an e-mail account?

Yes, if you don't have an internet service provider you can signup for a free e-mail through a provider such as Hotmail.com.

Can I use any version of Excel for this class?

Yes, however, the textbooks for each of the classes are written for the current version (check the Course Syllabus for your course). Previous students have used other versions but keep in mind that there will be occasional discrepancies in the instructions and screen shots which you will have to modify. (Not recommended if you are a novice computer user.)

Is there any way that I can talk to an instructor in person?

Yes, the instructor has an e-mail (zhangh@smccd.net) and will return all e-mails. The instructor can also make arrangements to meet with you on campus if necessary.

There anyone else who can assist with assignments?

Yes, the Skyline instructional aides in Accounting Lab are available during Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 12:00; and 1:00pm to 8: pm for your convenience. The Accounting Lab is located in Room 1-1218 , the phone number is 650-738-4247. They are very capable assistants.

If I take the class for Credit/No Credit do I have to do the work?

Yes, you must complete the same assignments and quizzes in the class to earn an average of C (70 percent or higher) to receive a grade of Credit. Check with a counselor about taking grades for Credit/Noncredit if you are working on a degree or certificate.

What other software or programs do I need for my class?

At the very least you must have a virus protection program (i.e., McAfee or Norton), a compression or Zip program (i.e., WIN_95), and Acrobat Reader. All these programs are utilities that you can download free of charge.
