French Professor Marilyn Carter screened La Chèvre.

Monday, Octover 23

English Professor Susan Petit's students read poems written in a language other than English and explained them.

Italian Professor Barbara Baraff held an introductory lesson on how to greet others, order in a caffè, and gesture like an Italian and held a drawing for a guide to Italian gestures.

Chinese Professor Jing Wu screened The Banquet and Seven Swords., French Professor George Khoury screened Bleu/Blue, Italian Professor Leda Mussio screened L'Ultimo bacio, a comedy of manners by Gabriele Muccino, Italian Professor Tiziana Balestra screened La Vita È Bella/Life Is Beautiful, and Japanese Professor Machiko Conway screened Hiroshima: City of Peace. Professor Conway's class also made Tsuru (Cranes) afterwards.

Tuesday, October 24

French Professor Susan Petit showed slides of Normandy.

Chinese Professor Jing Wu screened The Promise, French Professor George Khoury screened Dinner de Cons/The Dinner Game, Italian Professor Tiziana Balestra screened La Vita È Bella/Life is Beautiful, Japanese Professor Machiko Conway screened Rhapsody in August by Akira Kurosawa and made Tsuru (Cranes) afterwards, and German Professor Roslyn Raney screened Die verlorene Ehre der Katharina Blum/The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum.

Wednesday, October 25

American Sign Language (ASL) Professor Michael Cheung's students demonstrated telephone and other technology for Deaf/Hearing communication, performed an ASL Skit, and presented a children’s picture and storybook.

Digital Film Professor David Laderman screened a clip from Atanarjuat (2001), a Canadian Native American film set in the Canadian Arctic, and In This World (2002), a film about two Afghan refugees who live in a camp in Peshawar and try to escape to Great Britain with the help of people smugglers. Their dangerous journey leads them along the "silk road" through Pakistan, Iran and Turkey towards London.

Italian Professor Guy Marra screened Bread and Chocolate, German Professor Diane Musgrave screened Nirgendwo in Afrika, Chinese Professor Jing Wu screened House of Flying Daggers and Zhou Yu’ Train, and Spanish Professor Jennifer Lisses screened El Mariachi.

Thursday, October 26

English Professor Beth Harrison's students will read international poetry.

Japanese Professor Machiko Conway welcomed guest lecturer Dr. Catherine Firpo who screened Hiroshima: City of Peace and to lead a discussion afterwards. The class also made Tsuru (Cranes) at the end of the program.

Italian Professor Guy Marra screened Bread and Tulips and German Professor Roslyn Raney screened Die Harmonisten/The Harmonists which tells the story of the formation, great success and later breakup of the Comedian Harmonists, a men's vocal group that enjoyed immense popularity in Germany. When the National Socialist government came to power, the Jewish background of some of the group's members became an issue.

Friday, October 27

The French Club sponsored a French crepe lunch and Italian Professor Barbara Baraff screened La Strada and held a drawing for the Italian DVD Io Non Ho Paura/I'm Not Scared.

ESL Professor Amy Sobel's students recited poetry and sang songs in their native languages of Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Urdu, Hindi, and Vietnamese and explain their importance.
