This 1.0 unit course satisfies the CSM Information Competency Requirement. The course helps students develop college-level research skills for working with online and print information. Students will learn the tools and practices of finding and evaluating information resources for academic purposes, including citing sources ethically and appropriately. The skills students develop in this class are applicable to other courses involving writing and research.

Course Textbook

The required textbook for the class is Research Strategies: Finding Your Way Through the Information Fog by William Badke. ISBN: 978-1491722336, available at the CSM bookstore. There will also be a copy of the textbook available on College Reserves at the CSM Library.

Library Card

Students should obtain a free Peninsula Library System (PLS) library card for use in the class. For those who have a library card already, it is a good idea to confirm that the card is still active. Visit any PLS library, including the library at CSM, with a photo ID to obtain a new card or update an existing one.
