Purpose: The purpose of this speech assignment is for you to exercise your critical thinking and reasoning skills to persuade your audience to change an attitude, behavior, opinion. Furthermore, you must propose to your audience to take action based on your arguments. YOU MUST CHOOSE FROM ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PATTERNS FOR YOUR SPEECH:

2. Comparative Advantages
3. Problem Solution
4. 3 Reasons Objective:
This speech should be an original effort to convince your audience of your views and to encourage them to take action in support of your arguments. The topic should be of interest to you and something that we don't hear about excessively. Avoid tired topics. The action should be well-focused and clearly understandable. Grading Criteria: This speech should AT MINIMUM be interesting, informative, well-organized, consider the audience and use sound reasoning. Your views should be delivered persuasively and credibly. In addition:
1. A speech which meets, but does not exceed, the minimum requirements of research and criteria listed above will receive 32 points, which is average and one must put forth considerable effort to earn more.
2. Any speech below 6 minutes or over 11 minutes can receive no higher than 30 points. Any speech between 6-7 minutes or 9-10 minutes will receive a point penalty, ranging up to 6 points.
3. Any speech which does not have a clear thesis statement/central idea and main points will receive no higher than 28 points.
4. Any speech read from an outline, manuscript or note cards will receive no higher than 28 points. Your instructor will collect your notes after the speech.
5. Any speech which does not fulfill the minimum required source citations will be penalized by lowering your speech by at least 4 points.
