This course is a study of the major organ systems of the human body, and how they function. We will examine system function from the molecular and cellular level, to the tissue, organ, and whole-organismal levels. The course will center around the theme of how physiolocial mechanisms function and adapt to changing internal and external changes in the environment in order to maintain a healthy state of homeostasis, and also what happens when these systems fail. We will approach our study of system functions from both teleological and mechanistic perspectives.
