Steps to Take Before Connecting to the WiFi Network Make sure your virus detection software is up to date. Make sure your computer has the latest software patches installed. Understand that connections to the Internet will be on a public network with many different users and computing platforms. Some of those systems may be infected with undesirable worms and viruses. What you need to connect: An 802.11b or 802.11g device (e.g. laptop, PDA, etc ) Configure your device to "Connect to available networks". You do NOT need a USER-ID or PASSWORD. Users will: Respect college priorities for use of facilities. Follow normal standards of security, ethics, conduct, and protocol which include: Considerate behavior with respect to others. Respect the privacy of others. Respect the legal protection of copyright and license agreements. Respect the integrity of computing systems. Unacceptable uses will include: Any illegal or inappropriate use of college facilities, activities which interfere with or disrupt network users, services or equipment. Use representing for-profit activities. Displaying sexually explicit, graphically disturbing, or sexually harassing images or text. Â
