Subject: Construction Notice - Pick-up/Drop-off Point -

Hi everybody. Our President’s Cabinet has decided to ‘create’ a student pick-up/drop-off point in Staff Parking Lot 1. It will be located directly in front of the Gallery Theater (open the attached photo map). The decision was not an easy one for Cabinet, as they were torn about the consequences of taking six prime staff parking spaces in
As you know, we lost two drop-off/pick-up points on campus – one between Buildings 5 and 7 in the turnaround circle [now the site of Building 6 (Student Support and Community Services Center)] and the second between Building 2 and 3 [now the site of our Bus Transient Area].
I am sure you have witnessed the unsafe practices of some motorists in determining where to pick-up/drop-off students – without a designated area, they decide on their own to pick-up or drop-off students in the bus stop area, anywhere along the Loop Road, in Parking Lot 6, Loading Dock of Buildings 2 and 5, etc., etc. To promote safe practices on campus, a designated student pick-up/drop-off area is needed that services the needs of our students.
Friday evening, January 13, Facilities and Security staff will spot barricades to cordon off the six parking spaces in front of the Gallery Theater that will be ‘converted’ into a student pick-up/drop-off point. This weekend, our Grounds crew will install appropriate signage at the six parking spaces, paint the parking spaces and curb at the designated area, and install directional signage leading into Staff Parking Lot 1 to the drop-off/pick-up area.
Thanks – and wishing you the very best going into the Spring Semester.
Richard
