CSM Building 36 Report of Additional Scope Requests

as of August 18, 2006

This report lists the items, identified by faculty and staff, which need additional attention.  These items were not in the design-builder’s contract, so they are tracked as additional scope requests.  A separate listing of contract items needing remediation is available at http://www.smccd.edu/accounts/facilities/maintoperation/CSMB36Punchlist.htm

This report provides transparency in the process of vetting and implementing additional scope requests.  This report includes items reported initially to Swinerton Management & Consulting, as well as items submitted to the Facilities HelpCenter.  When an additional scope request is received, it is reviewed for constructability, cost and relative benefit to the Science curriculum.  Priority levels are assigned based on these criteria, from 1 (high priority) on down.

Items are listed in order of status:

·         Approved:  these items have been approved, funding has been identified, and an estimated date of completion is shown.

·         Pending:  these are items for which solutions have yet to be identified, or the identified solutions have been targeted for implementation at a future date.

·         Not Approved:  requestors have withdrawn their requests, approval of other requests have voided the necessity of implementing these requests, or the priority level does not warrant the expense associated with a particular request.

If you have identified an additional scope request and do not see it on this list, please submit the request to the Facilities HelpCenter (look for the link on the left navigation bar).  Requests received prior to September 22, 2006 will be considered.  As additional scope requests are received, this report will be updated periodically.

Change wiring between switches and light fixtures to be consistent with the orientation of the room. There is a switch that turns on the lights to the far right of the room (away from the doors). This switch should operate lights in the back of the room (opposite the board and instructor desk). This is something I noticed while trying out the projector in that room.

Provide lighter colored shades for faculty offices and stockroom. Black shades absorb heat and reradiate it. I have noticed the heat coming off of the shades in my office. A lighter colored shade (perhaps matching the wall color) would provide a much better working environment when the shade is down to cut glare.

All the computers need security cables; we have many walk-through thefts on campus that are never reported. We also have gangs - students complain. The office computers in Bldg 36 are not secure, and anyone can walk off with them.

Kim Meyers is supposed to have her office in the biology prep area. Because of the location of the emergency shower and eyewash, there is no longer sufficient space for her to have a regular desk, shelves or working area. We have walked the space several times. The only solution is to move the eyewash and shower to allow for proper space for a desk, chair and shelves. You can get additional information from Kim Meyer at ext 6245.

I have been using the observatory for a few nights and there is one glaring source of light pollution.  It is coming from the 3rd floor hallway of building 18.  I notice that there are 2 lights on the 3rd floor hallway, one relatively close to the window and one a little farther into the hallway.  You could come up to the observatory roof during the day and see for yourself.  Of course, it won't be as glaring during the day, but the light is still quite evident.  Is there any way that the light closest to the window be turned off or shielded or covered with red cellophane or something?  Or, maybe a dark shield could be installed, directing the light downward.  The sky at he observatory is relatively dark, with the exception of that light.

Stanford, Darryl

President's Cabinet has approved the installation of window film from the top window mullion to the roof to cut the glare.  Diane Martinez is coordinating estimating/scheduling/install.
