A Letter to the participants

Hello workshop participants,

Thank you for registering for the September 23rd Student Learning Outcomes workshop! The attached prepacket gives a brief overview of student learning outcomes and assessment, including AAHE's "Nine Principles of Good Practice for Assessing Student Learning." (Click on Prepacket.doc)

Before the workshop, please review these materials and complete the Angelo and Cross Teaching Inventory Test online (http://www.uiowa.edu/~centeach/tgi/index.html) to see if what you teach correlates with what you value as a teacher. Bring the results of the teaching inventory and a syllabus of a course you are currently teaching to the workshop. (Or you may want to bring syllabi of the core courses in your program to generate program SLOs.) Student services folks should bring copies of your department vision and/or mission statements and assessments.

The workshop will take place at the San Mateo Marriott Hotel, which is located at 1770 South Amphlett Boulevard in San Mateo, 94402. Get a ticket from the machine to park your car in their lot, and when you register we will provide for the parking fees. Just beyond the lobby, register with Theresa Tentes at the table outside the Crystal Springs Room between 7:45- 9, but keep in mind that the workshop begins promptly at 9 and that for your convenience and relaxation, we have provided for a continental breakfast from 8-9.

We SLOAC chairs look forward to seeing you on September 23rd, and please contact us if you have any questions!
