James T. Lim was born in the Philippines of Chinese ancestry. He came to Skyline College as an International student in 1985. He immediately felt “comfortable” and “welcome” at Skyline College and went on to earn an A.S. degree in Business Information Systems, where he was the recipient of the highest honors and the California Congress scholarship. From Skyline he proceeded to Golden Gate University in San Francisco where he received a B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management. Upon graduation, he was named Student of the Year and earned Magna cum Laude honors. He later attended classes at Cornell University as the American Hotel Foundation’s Hanley Hotels Scholarship recipient, as well as the National Tour Foundation’s Scholarship awardee. James has held positions as the Rooms Division Manager at the historic Palace Hotel in San Francisco, where he received a Manager of the Quarter Award in 1994, and was the General Manager of the Sheraton Four Points in Emeryville. He currently serves as the General Manager of Joie de Vivre’s Maxwell Hotel in San Francisco. James has also taught part-time at Golden Gate University where he received the 1998 Golden Gate University School of Technology’s Distinguished Teaching award. James currently resides in Dublin with his wife, Maria Carlota, an elementary school teacher. They have two daughters and one son. James will soon complete his MBA in Management at Golden Gate University. A great believer in giving back to his community, James serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Philippine International Aid, a non-profit organization that supports projects in the Philippines, especially those benefiting disadvantaged children.
