Welcome to the Writing and Reading Lab's Virtual Tour!
a place to get assistance on writing and reading assignments across the disciplines.

The Writing and Reading Lab is located on the first floor of Building 5-100 inside The Learning Center.

Our hours are:
    Mon: 8am-8pm
    Tues: 8am-8pm
    Weds: 8am-8pm
    Thurs: 8am-8pm
    Fri: 8am-4pm    

Directions to Skyline College

The Learning Center offers tutoring in all disciplines and PC and Macintosh computers are available for Skyline students.

To begin using The Learning Center's resources, sign in on a log in computer. You must be enrolled in a lab course to be able to use The Learning Center. Enrolling is easy and inexpensive. You can enroll in LSKL 800 (general lab use and English assistance lab),
ENGL 650 (TRIO students), ESL 655 (for the ESL Lab), or Math 650 (TRIO students). You can enroll for variable units from 0.5 to 3.0 and all courses are credit/no credit. Then you earn college credit for all your time spent working in the TLC!

If you have any questions, ask one of the lab assistants at the front upon entering.

The Writing and Reading Lab is in the back corner to your left.

There are many services available in this lab!

  • Get one on one tutoring from teachers on any essay for any course
  • Learn using writing and reading software
  • Practice skills through handbooks and handouts
  • Attend faculty-taught workshops
  • Join weekly English practice groups
  • Get credit for work done at home

IMPORTANT: Each time you enter the lab, you need to sign in at a log in computer and then sign out when you leave or you will not earn credit for your time.

To use The Writing and Reading Lab and earn college credits, you can enroll in:

  • Learning Skills 800 (general Writing & Reading Lab use)
  • English 655 (for ESL students)
  • English 650 (for TRIO/ STAARS students)

These courses are open-entry with variable units, so add when you want and design it to fit your schedule! You decide when you want to come into the lab. We don't assign you any work but rather help you on your reading and writing assignments for your other classes! Earn college credit while getting help!!

When you are ready to work with a tutor, simply sign up on the white dry erase board in the lab.

At the top of the board are the names of the tutors on duty. Sign your name below and you will be helped on a first come, first served basis.


Help yourself to some helpful informational handouts from the 2nd drawer. Also, take advantage of the lab's library located on the shelves to the right of the cabinet for whatever reading or writing tasks you may be working on.

Be sure to take advantage of the FREE faculty-taught workshops given through the Writing and Reading Lab .

When it comes to the tutoring relationship it is important to work with someone you feel comfortable with. In the Writing and Reading Lab , we have a large staff of tutors, and you decide which one(s) you want to work with and when.
