Facilities Master Plan presentation: As you know, we have been working with Steinberg Architects on our Facilities Master Plan, through our Task Force (Educational and Facilities Master Plan Task Force) and through a couple of college wide Open Forums. At the last Forum, we discussed two different alternatives which Steinberg Architects provided, and we gave them advice about those. The Board heard the same presentation. Steinberg Architects are now using that feedback to prepare a proposed single solution and they will present that for the Task Force in a couple of weeks. The Task Force meeting is open to anyone in the college who is interested, so please join us. Here are the time and place:

Steinberg Architects will then make a presentation to the Board of Trustees, and prepare their final proposal for Board action in July.

Commencment 2006: Please join me in thanking the following people who brought us and the students an outstanding Commencement last Friday night–beautiful, moving, memorable and fun:

• Commencement Committee: for planning and coordinating commencement activities, and for staffing the event, including Loretta P. Adrian, Chair; Connie Beringer, Amory Cariadus, Doria Bernard, Linda Ghio, Sherri Hancock, Shelly Hausman, Belinda Ho, Persis Morrice, Tommie Phillips, Sr., Kanjana Srisupatpongsa, Theresa Tentes, Richard Tidd, Sally Welch, Andreas Wolf.
• Commencement Volunteers, comprised of Skyline staff, students, family, and friends, who served as ushers, assisted with crowd control, provided security, and helped with other aspects of commencement, including Roxanne Brewer, Eloisa Briones, Karen Chadwick-White, Steve Cornejo, Marta Cuellar, Kiiausha David, Horacio Gamboa, Kenny Gonzalez, Pablo Gonzalez, Matt Hernandez, Jon Holloway, Jennifer Hughes, Lefty Karkazis, Linda Kisich, Sylvia Martinez, Anna Morrison, Regina Morrison, Felix Perez, Juanita Quintero, Thommy Reyes, Kevin Sinarle, Wendy Smith, Sunny Tan, Erika Torres, Sara Torrigino, Jonathan Vasquez, Guillermo Villanueva, Salah Webb, Lindsay Welch, Amy Windley, Peggy Windley, Stephanie Young, and Steve Young.
• Professor Billy Robinson and the Skyline College Jazz Band; Professor Jude Navarri and Reina Aguiao for the music.
• The Facilities Department staff for transporting various commencement-related equipment and musical instruments.

College Budget Committee recommendation for 2006-07: The College Budget Committee (CBC) has prepared its final recommendation for the 2006-07 year, the College Council has heard and reviewed that recommendation, and it has been forwarded to me. I have concurred in the recommendation. If you are interested in the detailed recommendation and my memo of concurrence, you can find those at this spot on our website: http://www.smccd.net/accounts/skycbc/home.html I appreciate the care the committee took in several areas:

• Seeking to better align our college vision, mission, values, goals and strategies with our budget allocation.
• Prioritizing the requests so that if additional revenue becomes available as the final budget takes shape, we will be able to move immediately to address additional needs identified on the list of requests.
• Considering alternative funding sources for some of the requests.
• Recommending stabilization of the hourly instruction and hourly counseling budgets.

Please join me in thanking the able Co-Chairs of the CBC–Carla Campillo and Eloisa Briones, who led the group through an informative and productive year, and kept the committee well informed about the district resource allocation model, and about budget developments at the state level.  They also led the committee through a thoughtful process of deliberation about the college’s budget for 2006-07.
