Skyline Shines

August 26, 2005

At the front door of Skyline: During the first couple of weeks of the term, there are a number of people at Skyline whose service to students rises to a particularly high level of importance. At this time, many students are new to the college and friendly, helpful contact means the world to them. In particular I would like to thank the staff, faculty and administrators of Admissions and Records, the Cashiers, Assessment, Financial Aid, Counseling, EOPS, DSPS, the One-Stop Information Center, the Educational Services Office and the Division Offices for all they are doing to welcome students and to help them find their way. That is everyone’s job, and I know we are all involved in it, but the people in these offices have a particularly critical role right now. They are working hard, and fast, on behalf of students. Please join me in thanking them.

New people at Skyline: Please join me in welcoming several people to Skyline:

Belinda Ho, Administrative Secretary in the office of the Vice President for Student Services, replaces Linda Ghio (she is now in the President’s Office).

Randy Claros is on a detail assignment for one year as Financial Aid Technician. He replaces Erika Torres who is on a one-year leave.

Nancy Argarin is our new Operations Assistant II in the Cashier’s Office. She replaces Eric Benjamin.

Faculty Door Cards: Skyline shines like crazy when it comes to providing students key information in the form of faculty door cards. I am proud to say that one hundred percent of Skyline’s full-time faculty have provided their electronic door cards on our website this fall.

New Master Calendar on our website: Go to the "News & Events" button on the college website, and you will find some valuable new tools http://www.smccd.net/accounts/skypio/ The Office of College Development, Marketing and Public Relations website includes a new Master Calendar of events. This will allow us to coordinate scheduling of events to avoid conflicts. The website also includes guidelines for event planning, a checklist for scheduling campus events and ways to submit events for inclusion on the Master Calendar. You can also request help from the office for publications, publicity or promotion of events. Skyline Shines and the President’s Reports to the Board are archived there as well.
