President's Updates

January 27, 2005

That is what I am going to call these updates:  Skyline Shines.

Executive Report to the Board of Trustees:  I thought some of you might like to see the report I gave to the Board of Trustees Tuesday night.  It is available at this address, under a new button called President’s Board Reports:  http://skylinecollege.edu/skynotes/

Included with the report were the athletics schedules and the brochures for the WOW! Women on Writing conference and the Expanding Your Horizons conference.  Many members of the college assisted in the creation of the report, both in terms of providing items and assisting with the nice graphics.  I will be giving such a report to the Board about once a month, so if you have items, be sure to let me know.

Security information:  In response to an article in the December 6 Skyline View expressing concerns about security on campus, we have been reviewing our practices and double-checking things.  We have learned that Skyline College is in the top five colleges in the Bay area in terms of safety, according to the National Crime Statistics reported as of December, 2004.  We are committed to preserving this excellent record.  Here is a review of security services provided on campus:

Mike Fitzgerald recognized by the Pacifica Sports Hall of Fame:  Mike Fitzgerald will be inducted into the Pacifica Sports Hall of Fame on February 26th at the Grosvenor Hotel in South San Francisco. Mike attended Skyline College and was ranked the number one tennis player in 1976. He has been a faculty member at Skyline for 26 years, has coached softball, cross country and numerous physical education courses within the division. His latest venture includes certification as a Spinning instructor.

Tsunami Relief:  Phi Theta Kappa is holding a fundraiser for tsunami relief on February 14, from 8 am-2 pm in the quad between Buildings 1 and 2.  The proceeds of the event will go to UNICEF.  Please join me in supporting their efforts.  We don’t need to eat the candy ourselves; we can feed it to our friends and colleagues.
