Topic of the Month

MCIC Study Shows Minority Communities Have Low Access to Retailers:

In addition to having fewer major player grocers, new MCIC research demonstrates that minority communities house fewer pharmacies, eyecare providers, health clubs, bookstores, and other retailers on a per capita basis than white communities.  At the same time, they often have a higher number of fast food restaurants and liquor stores per capita.  Is there a connection between race, income, and access to stores? What do you think about this? What issues does it bring up about the balance between the doctor-patient relationship and federal law? About the use of illicit substances for pain control in general and what doctors' roles can/should be in this?

Other thoughts on the issue?
