TROJANS EARN PLAYOFF SPOT

For the first time since the 2003 season the Skyline Women's Soccer team has earned a birth in the Northern California playoffs. The Trojans (13-7-1) received the #15 seed and will travel to #2 seed Consumnes River College of Sacramento (14-5-5) on Saturday, Nov. 22nd for a 2:00pm first round match.



SKYLINE COMPLETES SWEEP OF NORCAL NEIGHBORS
November 11, 2008

With their 5-0 win over San Francisco City College on Tuesday at Gellert Park, Skyline completed a four game sweep of their closest neighbors, topping City College and Canada College of Redwood City twice this season. The Trojans outscored their rivals 20-2 in the four games, including 5-0 and 5-1 wins over Canada earlier this season.

On Tuesday, Skyline scored three times in the first half against SFCC, twice Jessica Portillo found the back of the net, pushing her season total to 10 goals. Isharene Malave scored her team leading 13th goal of the season in the 40th minute to give the Trojans a good lead headed into the second half. Taylor Hill and Marie Torres scored in the second half to push the winning margin to 5-0.

Skyline will host Evergreen Valley College on Friday at 3:00pm for their regular season finale, and what will be the last home game for this years sophomore class. The Trojans currently rank #14 in the latest Northern California Playoff Rankings and are hoping to secure their first playoff birth since 2003.


TROJANS GRAB BIG WIN ON ROAD

After dropping a pair of non-conference games on the road last week Skyline got a much needed win at Las Positas of Livermore 2-1 on Tuesday. The Trojans previous two games, a 2-1 loss at Ohlone College and a 3-0 loss at Los Medanos College of Pittsburg, dropped Skyline out of playoff contention, but Tuesday's win helped the Trojans get back to 15th in the latest Northern California Playoff standings. The top 16 teams in Northern California make the state playoffs in November.

Isharene Malave scored once in the first half and again midway through the second half to lead the Trojans to the victory. Goalkeeper Marie Torres came up big with several saves in the second half, including a pair of breakaway stops against Las Positas talented forwards.

Skyline will host Canada College on Friday, Oct. 31st at 2:00pm.

SKYLINE PUSHES WIN STREAK TO FOUR

The Skyline College women's soccer team topped Cabrillo College of Aptos on Friday for their fourth win in a row. The 1-0 shutout was the Trojans third in the past four games. Jessica Portillo scored her seventh goal of the season in the 60th minute and goalkeeper Marie Torres kept Cabrillo out of the net for the full 90 minutes. Isharene Malave added an assit to her team leading point total of 20.

Skyline (8-4-1, 4-1-0) will travel to Ohlone College of Fremont on Tuesday October, 21st at 4:00pm.





TROJANS WIN SHOOTOUT AT CHABOT

Skyline won for the fifth time in their last six games on the road with a 4-3 win at Chabot College of Hayward. Jessica Portillo scored twice and added an assist to lead the Trojans in the high scoring affair. Skylline trailed twice in the match, but rallied to score each time to even the score. Early in the second half Amanda Downing scored to put Skyline up 3-2 and in the 60th minute Portillo scored to gave Skyline a two goal cushion. Freshman goalkeeper Marie Torres made several big saves down the stretch to hold the lead for the Trojans.

Skyline (7-4-1, 4-1-1) will host Cabrillo College of Aptos as part of a double header on Friday, Oct. 17th at 1:00pm.



SKYLINE WINS A PAIR ON THE ROAD
October 10, 2008

The Trojans faced a pair of tough road games this week and came way with two important victories to push their overall record to 6-4-1. On Friday, Skyline traveled to West Valley College in Saratoga and topped the home team 1-0, it was the Trojans first ever win at West Valley. Jessica Portillo scored the games lone goal in the 48th minute and goalkeeper Marie Torres kept the Vikings out of the next for the full ninety minutes for her second clean sheet of the season.

Skyline began the week with a 4-0 shutout of Evergreen Valley College in a divisional game. Four different Trojans scored in the game, including Ishirene Malave ( her 8th of the season) , Jen Alvarez (2nd) and Amanda Downing (4th). Melissa Drosi scored her first collegiate goal in the 85th minute. Faye Zink completed her first shutout of the season, making 3 saves in the game. The Trojans are now 4-1 in divisional play, good for second in the Coast Conference North.




TROJANS 1-1-1 IN LAST THREE

The Trojans have evened their overall record at 4-4-1 after playing three games this past week. Skyline started the week on Tuesday with a 2-0 home loss to De Anza College of Cupertino, but rebounded for a 4-1 win over City College San Francisco on Friday and a hard fought 2-2 tie with visiting Taft College on Saturday.

SKYLINE 2, TAFT COLLEGE 2

Skyline fell behind twice against Taft College on Saturday, but found a way to even the score each time and earn a draw from the match. Laura Cremen scored in the 40th minute to tie the game at 1-1 just before half. Taft scored late in the second half to take a 2-1 lead, but Isharene Malave scored her team leading seventh goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2.

SKYLINE4, SFCC 1

The Trojans jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead and secured second place in the Coast Conference North division with a 3-1 record. Four difference Trojans scored in the game, including Jessica Portillo, Laura Cremen, Isharene Malve and Jen Alvarez. Goalkeeper Faye Zink had three saves in the victory.


SKYLINE 0, DE ANZA 2

The Coast Conference North Division lead was on the line as Skyline hosted De Anza College of Cupertino on Tuesday, as both teams entered the game with undefeated division records. De Anza scored late in the first half to take the lead and again in the second half to grab the 2-0 victory. Goalkeeper Marie Torres had six saves in the loss.

 



TROJANS TOP CANADA 5-1

SKYLINE 5, CANADA 1

Skyline traveled to district rival Canada College of Redwood City on Tuesday and after falling behind by a goal early in the match the Trojans turned up the offense, scoring a season high five goals. Freshman forward Isharene Malave' scored three goals, giving her a team high five for the season.

Amanda Downing tied the game in the 20th minute with her third goal in the last two games. Malave' then scored the next two goals for Skyline, giving the Trojans a 3-1 halftime advantage. Jessica Portillo scored in the 55th minute and Malave' finished her terrific day with an unassisted goal in the 60th minute. Roxana Cornejo and Arleen Winkelbauer each had an assists in the win.

Skyline improved to 2-0 in Coast Conference play and 3-3 overall. The Trojans will host De Anza College of Cupertino on Tuesday, Sept. 20th at 2:00pm.


 

SKYLINE STARTS CONFERENCE PLAY WITH WIN

SKYLINE 4, LAS POSITAS 1

The Skyline women's soccer team opened Coast Conference play with a 4-1 home win over Las Positas of Livermore on Friday. The Trojans raced out to a quick lead, after freshman forward Isharene Malave' beat two Las Positas defenders in the box and scored in the 6th minute. The visitors drew even with a goal in the 15th minute, but Skyline answered back when freshman midfielder Laura Cremen found the back of the net three minutes later with a long range strike.

Freshman forward Amanda Downing came in as a substitute before half and quickly scored her first goal of the season in the 40th minute to make the score 3-1. Downing scored again in the second half to secure the home win for Skyline. Freshman goalkeeper Marie Torres had three saves.

Skyline (2-3-0,1-0-0) will travel to Canada College of Redwood City on Tuesday, Sept. 23rd at 4:00pm.

The Skyline Women's Soccer team opened the 2008 season with a 1-0 win over West Hills College of Lemoore. Sophomore Leigh Ann Mac Mullen scored the Trojans only goal in the 20th minute and freshman goalkeeper Marie Torres had three saves in the shutout.

Skyline (1-0-0) will host Ohlone College of Fremont on Friday, Sept. 5th at 2:00pm.
