What:
The California State University
(CSU) System consists of 23 campuses. It is the largest system of senior
higher education in the U.S. and grants over 50% of the bachelor's degrees
in the State of California every year. The CSU system offers bachelors,
masters, and some joint doctorate programs in 240 subject areas-plus
a full range of teaching and school service credentials. Over 70% of
the students who graduates from the CSU system entered as transfer students!
Students may attend the CSU part-time as well as full-time and many
evening classes are offered.
How:
The smoothest way to transfer
to the CSU from a community college is to complete a transfer program
consisting of a minimum of 60 transferable units with at least a 2.0
"C" grade point average. All campuses except Humboldt, Cal Poly San
Luis Obispo, Pomona, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Marcos
will allow required units to be completed over Summer prior to Fall
transfer). As part of these units you must complete either a minimum
of 30 of the 39 units of CSU general education
requirements with "C" grades to include Area A and Area
B4 OR or IGETC (Intersegmental General
Education Transfer curriculum). Some CSU campuses will not allow Areas
A and B4 to be completed over Summer prior to Fall transfer. For the
rest of your units you should try and complete lower-division major
requirements if available. List of courses transferable
to CSUs.
Important:
- If you follow a
transfer program as described above your admission will be solely
based on your college record. You will not be required to submit high
schools records or SAT/ACT test results.
- As long as you
complete a transfer program as described above you will meet the requirements
for admissions into any CSU campus with any major. The only exceptions
are impacted majors/campuses. In these cases you will need to complete
additional requirements, often with a higher grade point average.
Consult the Transfer Center or your counselor for complete details.
- Requirements may
differ for international and foreign educated students. Consult with
your counselor or CSU campus.
Cost:
CSUs are public universities
and at present cost approximately $3000.00 per year (still a bargain
for higher education). Financial aid is available for qualified applicants.
Contact the Financial Aid Offices at the CSU campuses in which you are
interested and consult with the Financial Aid Office at Skyline.
When:
Most CSU campuses are on the semester system (like Skyline), but some
like Cal State East Bay (formerly CSU Hayward) and Cal Poly San Luis
Obispo follow the quarter system. You are urged to apply early, during
the first month of the application filing period which is:
Oct 1-Nov 30 for
fall semester or quarter August 1-31 for
spring semester or quarter Feb 1-28 for summer
quarter June 1-30 for
winter quarter.
Applications must
apply online (CSU Mentor). Important:
It is very important that you
meet with a Skyline counselor to design an education plan which will
map what you need to do, semester by semester, in order to transfer
successfully. The Transfer Center also offers a variety of transfer
and application workshops and
also arranges individual appointments for students to visit representatives
from various CSU campuses.CSU
