FACULTY ORGANIZATIONS

Academic Senate
Every community college in California is authorized to have an Academic Senate. The Senate at Skyline includes part-time as well as full-time faculty, both evening and day. The Governing Council of the Academic Senate meets twice a month. The Senate, through its committees, acts in consultation with the College administration on academic and professional matters.

There are four standing committees in the Academic Senate:

Curriculum Committee: Reviews college curriculum through Program Review, submits recommendations on prerequisites, co requisites, new courses, course deletions, course modifications, and academic degree or certificate program.

Educational Policy Committee: Reviews the current college-wide educational policies, including academic standards, probation, disqualification, re-admission policies, grading procedures, matriculation, student behavior, and student grievances.

Professional Personnel Committee: Reviews proposals for Trustees' Fund for Program Improvement and for other faculty awards and develops policy and procedures for professional standards.

Research Committee: Assists the Academic Senate Governing Council and the College in collecting information needed for decision-making, and acts as a resource in matters of institutional research.

The Senate is supported by voluntary dues from the faculty ($20.00 per year). Information is distributed to faculty on a regular basis. All faculty are automatically members of the Senate.
