Ed Policy Committee Meeting Minutes

April 5, 2005

In Attendance: Garrett Nicol, Evelyn Seth, Lynn Douglas, Tadashi Tsuchida, Cindy Moss, Melchie Cabrigas, Diana Cushway, Paul Spakowski

1. Approval of Minutes

The minutes from the March 1, 2005, meeting were not read and approved. Members have a week to refer to the web site and e-mail Garry with any corrections.

2. Academic Senate Report - Garry

Dr. Judith Redwine was welcomed to the committee. Garry referred to three revisions to District Rules and Regs. He understood that two have been ratified by the board: 7.72 Suspension and Expulsion of Students and 7.28 Student Records. The question for the committee is what role should the committee play when the district board makes such changes. A third revision is still listed as a draft: Proposed Mutual respect Policy 2.24. Garry will put all three on agenda for next meeting.

3. Academic Integrity: Plagiarism/cheating policy

Garry reported that Nick Kapp is still working on getting the questionnaire into Test Pilot. Meanwhile Cindy Moss volunteered to try it. Garry will send her the questions.

4. Classroom Etiquette

This item was tabled for the next meeting.

5. Fine Tuning of AP, CLEP, CBE

Garry reported that he and Jennifer and Terry Stat were taking one last look at at CLEP before sending it all on to Regina. It was noted that the catalog deadline is early May.

The revised policies will appear in the student handbook, on our webpage and in the catalog.

6. Matriculation Update

The big news is that Evelyn pressed the submit botton: retirement imminent. :( Many thanks for grace under fire.

7. Degree Audit Steering Committee

Sherri at a conference..

8. Grievance Form

Jennifer reported by e-mail that Regina did approve the grievance form and policy. It also went to cabinet and was approved. They just added all the steps of the grievance to the form so that the student, when picking up an official grievance form, is given the entire set of procedures. This did not require any changes in the form that had been approved by Ed Policy, but they just had the form mirror the policy as written in the Student Handbook.

At the meeeting the committee reviewed this current version of the procedures and design changes were suggested for clarity: Judith volunteered to take the suggestions to Jennifer before printing. Melchie noted that even though it was in the Student Handbook, recent experience show that students don't always find the procedures. There was some discussion of where exactly to print the policy and/or form: 1) Student Handbook, 2) College Catalog, 3)Faculty Handbook, 4) Skyline Web.

Next Ed Policy Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3, 2005. The agenda will be much the same with the addition of goals for next year. Melchie volunteered to be recorder.
