Present: Anyta Archer, Nancy Argarin, Roxanne Brewer, Pat Carter, Mary Chries Concha, Barbara Daley, Carol Driscoll, Marcella Escobar Mora, Golda Gacutan, Stanlee Garriott, Linda Herda, Grace Kong, Nancy Lam, Barbara Lamson, Mary Anne Leary, Ellen Lee, Adolfo Leiva, Cinthia Saenz, Theresa Tentes, Annie Trinh, and Kennya Zepeda

Welcome Back - Introductions

Committee List – Will revisit this subject at the September meeting

• List of committees was distributed
• Reviewed the various committees that are looking for volunteers from the classified staff
• Committee members that are representing the classified staff should give a report at the Classified Council meetings. If attendance is not possible, they should send a short report via email to Adolfo Leiva and copy Barbara Lamson
• Commencement Committee – Golda Gacutan volunteered
• Health and Safety Committee – Pat Carter, Stanlee Garriott, and Nancy Lam volunteered
• Scholarship Committee – Mary Concha Thia, Golda Gacutan, and Marcy Escobar Mora volunteered
• SEEED Advisory Committee – Nancy Lam volunteered
• Student Access and Success Committee is currently inactive but may be brought back. Kennya Zepeda volunteered (if it becomes active)
• Student Recognition and Awards Ceremony Committee – Golda Gacutan volunteered
• Technology Advisory Committee really needs a classified representative – Adolfo has not heard back from the people currently on the list.

David Galang Scholarship

• Adolfo brought the recommendation from the Executive Board that the Classified Council start a new scholarship in the name of David Galang, of $300, to be voted on yearly.
• It was discussed – should this be a new Classified Council scholarship, a donation to the Foundation scholarship that is being put together, or one of the 3 $300 scholarships that the Classified Council gives yearly
• A motion was made, second, discussed, and passed, that the Classified Council will use one of the three $300 scholarships given and offer it as a recognition scholarship
• This year, it would be in recognition of David Galang
• Criteria will be discussed at a later date
• Perhaps we will offer it to a Cosmetology student that will be continuing their education with a goal of an Associate Degree
• The person this scholarship will honor will be determined each year by the Classified Council membership

Vision of 2007-2008

• Fundraisers
• Ideas will be discussed at the September meeting, please bring your suggestions
• Bake Sale
• Roxanne Brewer and Mary Anne Leary volunteered to be co-chairs again this year
• It was mentioned that the sales were greater when the items were wrapped in individually servings. The nicer the packaging, the better things sold
• A tentative date of Oct. 1, 2007 was suggested

New Business

• It was suggested and briefly discussed that the Executive Board thought it would be nice to have some staff development workshops this year
• Some ideas include
• How to make a flyer
• EAP – What is the employee assistance program?

Next meeting will be September 6^th from 2:00 pm – 3 pm, room 5131. Adolfo is trying to get a room for our meeting in Building 6. He will notify us if there is a location change.
