SKYLINE COLLEGE CLASSIFIED COUNCIL

MINUTES

March 4, 2004

Present: Barbara Daley, Donna Elliott, Pablo Gonzalez, Linda Kisich, Felix Perez, Phyllis Porcar

Minutes from the February 5, 2004 meeting were approved, with minor corrections.

Treasurer's Report: The balance of the Classified Council account as of February 2004 is $3,249.93.

Retreat: The retreat is scheduled for March 26, 2004 at the Best Western Lighthouse Hotel at Rockaway Beach, Pacifica. It will be fully funded by the District. Decorations purchased with Classified Council funds will be used for both the retreat and at our April 1st potluck lunch.  Two workshops will be presented by Skyline faculty Phyllis Taylor and Brian Shapiro.  Classified Council officers will meet with the presenters on March 17th to discuss the program.  Staff are invited to send ideas for workshop topics to Phyllis Porcar by March 16th.

Officer's Search: Response to the first e-mail calling for new officers was minimal, so a second notice will be sent.

Potluck Lunch: Instead of an April Classified Council meeting there will be a potluck luncheon and officer's election. Save the date: April 1st, 11:30 - 1:30 in Room 5131.

Reports:

Accreditation: Pablo Gonzalez represents the classified staff on the Accreditation Committee. The accreditation team will visit Skyline on March 29, 2004.

Phyllis presented a copy of the Focused Interim Report, prepared by the College, which addresses the recommendations received during the previous accreditation study.  The report is divided into three major themes: Clarifying Communication Processes; Conducting Comprehensive Integrated Planning; and Completing the Development of the Physical Environment.   The self-study describes how Skyline has effected changes to meet the recommendations of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

EEOAC:  Museum of Tolerance (MOT) Alumni will meet March 5th to brief the Skyline staff and faculty attending the March and May training sessions in Los Angeles. The group will also meet with Canada MOT alumni to help them plan and organize their Horizon Line event, modeled after Skyline's presentation held last November.

Committee Appointments: Linda Allen is the new classified representative on the Scholarship Committee.

Phyllis Porcar will invite CSEA representative Charles Jones to speak at our May meeting regarding the process for staff appointments to college and district committees.

Next meeting: April 1, 2004, 11:30 - 1:30.  Watch for details on the potluck lunch and officer election to be held that day.
