Approved minutes from November 7 meeting as submitted.

Treasurer’s Report

Theresa Tentes reported that there is now $2268.16 in our account. This figure does not include the money already set aside for scholarship funds: $1402 for Staff/Faculty Scholarship and $500 for Classified Scholarship. Grand total is $4170.

Fundraising

The Chevy’s Night Dinner raised $53.29. It was a lot of fun, lots of people participated and there was no cost to us and involved very little of our time to setup. Theresa will check with Chevy’s about possibly setting up another date. She will also call Round Table Pizza and Armadillo Willy’s in San Mateo to see how they set up their fundraiser nights

The Holiday Basket Raffle fundraiser brought in $914. There were 13 baskets donated by departments and divisions.

The Spaghetti Dinner is set for Friday, March 21 at the Municipal Building in South San Francisco. Pablo Gonzalez is the chair of this committee and a lot of volunteers will be needed.

There will be no meeting of the Fundraising Committee until the semester is underway and things quiet down.

Concerns & Discussion

There was much discussion about the recent flooding and power outages. The Office of Instruction indicates that it uses a general initial guideline for determining class cancellations. Until further decisions are made, if there is sufficient natural light for students to safely get to and use their classrooms, classes will remain in session until otherwise determined. Therefore, classes will not be automatically cancelled when there is a power outage. Each situation will require individual attention and judgment by the administration.

There was also discussion about the air quality in building 5.

If you have a Health & Safety issue that you and your supervisor cannot solve, fill out the Health & Safety Committee Report form and follow the instructions. (See attachment)

FASDAC/Museum of Tolerance

The next trip to the Museum of Tolerance is scheduled for April 7 & 8, 2003.  Pablo Gonzalez and Kathy Fitzpatrick will be participating. It has cost around $50,000 per year to send approximately 20 people for this training. It is uncertain of how the recent budget cuts will affect this money. There has been talk of trying to ‘train trainers’ to bring certain aspects of this program directly to our campuses to reach more people.  There have been tentative dates of February 3-5 for training with more follow up in March and April.

Strategic Alternatives for Institutional Funding - SAIF

There have been four meetings to talk about ways to cut the budget. Some suggestions were: eliminate not-filled positions, offer early retirement packages, and not renew post retirement contracts. Recommendations were made that President White took to the Board of Trustees last month. Dr. White has asked to attend the next Classified Council meeting in February to let us know what the final decisions are.

Smoking Proposals

The Classified Council has been asked if we have any suggestions in the area of the recent discussions around smoking on campus. Discussion followed. It was decided that Classified Council propose that there be signage around campus and there be smoke-free areas.

Alternative Calendar

There was discussion about going to a 15 week semester with a 5 week intercession instead of 18 weeks semesters.

Classified Employee Award

Phyllis Porcar distributed copies of the Community College League of California Annual Convention Program. Skyline College’s One Stop Student Services Center is listed on page 12.

Next meeting will be Thursday, February 6th, 2:00 pm, room 5131.
