Fundraising

Theresa Tentes and Pablo Gonzalez reported that the next fundraiser will be the Holiday Basket Raffle in December. They are trying something a little different this year. They are contacting departments/divisions and asking them to put together a themed basket. Pablo will be the chairperson for the Spring Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, 3/21/03. It will be held at the S.S.F. Municipal Services Building, Social Hall. There are numerous sub-committees that will need volunteers, i.e. set up and clean-up, entertainment, greeters, etc. Please let Pablo know if you can help. There is a goal to raise $4000 with this event. There is a larger goal of $10,000 for the year. Karen Schwarz suggested that we be sure to extend the invitation for the Spaghetti Dinner to the SMCCCD Board of Trustees.

Health & Safety

There was concern expressed over the loss of emergency lighting today during the power outage. Without electricity the bathroom in Build 2, 2nd floor is inoperable and the handicap buttons to open doors also do not operate. Donna Elliott said to put our health and safety issues in writing on a report form which will then be addressed at the next committee meeting.

Planning & Budget

Felix Perez reported that there has been one orientation meeting recently.

Skyline FASDAC ? Museum of Tolerance

Donna Elliott and Linda Kisich just returned from their visit to the Museum of Tolerance. They reported it was great, wonderful, very educational, good interactive workshops, no negatives at all. They will make a more detailed report in the future when they have a chance to put their thoughts together. Pablo Gonzalez and Kathy Fitzpatrick are signed up to go in April 2003. There is talk of sending people to be trained so they can come back to the campuses and train others.

Strategic Alternatives for Institutional Funding

Phyllis Porcar reported that there were two presentations at the last meeting on ways to cut costs. Recommendations will be made to the President by next month and she will take them to the board.

Strategic Planning

Felix Perez reported that they are working on the draft of the mission statement for the college. It will be presented campus wide for input.

Upcoming events/dates

Phyllis Porcar reported that the 27 classified employees of the One Stop Student Center have been nominated for an award at the Community College League of California Conference in San Jose. Phyllis, Donna Elliott and Ileana Gadea will attend on November 16th to receive this award.
