San Francisco has a very diverse population with many ethnicities and several groups of nonnative people, called minorities. The largest minority in San Francisco is Chinese. Many Chinese people live in the area of San Francisco known as Chinatown not all Chinese live in Chinatown. The Chinese make up almost 20% of the entire population of San Francisco one of the biggest celebrations in San Francisco is Chinese New Year. there are very few Japanese living in San Francisco. They only make up 1.50% of the city's population. Chinatown is a large and important cultural center, Japantown is mostly just for show and shopping.

Hispanic people, or people from a Latin American background, make up the next biggest minority. San Francisco's hispanic population makes up about 14% of the city's population there are larger numbers of hispanics living on the San Francisco peninsula. Hispanics have a long history in San Francisco there are many festivals and events celebrating hispanic culture. Cinqo de Mayo, Dia de los Muertos, and Carnival are many examples of these events.

San Francisco has a large number of other ethnicities as well they do not have large percentages. All in all, San Francisco's population is one of many languges, colors and cultures, and that is what makes San Francisco an international city.
