Welcome ESL Lab Students! Take the ESOL 655 Diagnostic here!

1. Click and print it out.
2. Complete it (write as much as you can).
3. Bring it to the ESL lab and meet with a teacher or tutor.

What is ESOL 655?

ESOL 655 is a flexible-schedule, open-enrollment, fun way to improve your English skills! There are NO GRADES and there is NO HOMEWORK. You do as much work as you want to do, and your English gets better the more time you spend in the lab.

Here's how it works:

  1. Choose your units and enroll in ESOL 655.
    • Go to http://websmart.smccd.net/
    • Add ESOL 655 (for ESOL students) CRN # 39902
    • Select a number of units:
      • 0.5 units = 24 hrs of time spent in the lab
      • 1.0 units = 48 hrs
      • 1.5 units = 72 hrs
      • 2.0 units = 96 hrs
      • 2.5 units = 120 hrs
      • 3.0 units = 144 hrs
  2. Visit the lab to learn how to use it . Ask a staff member to give you a study program if you would. You will use it to keep track of all of your hours for each day you spend in the ESL lab.
  3. Set your own schedule and study at your own pace! You can improve English by: attending workshops; using computer programs, texts and handouts; joining conversation groups; getting one-on-one tutoring.
  4. Do you need more help? Ask for a diagnostic and a program! Click here and print out the form to complete, or ask a staff member to look at your writing from another class. We can make a personalized study program for you.
