You
are responsible for taking four 20-question multiple-choice open-book quizzes
based primarily on assigned readings in your textbook.
You
take all four quizzes in Web Access.
To log in to Web Access, use your CSM G# as your username, and use your
date of birth as your password, formatted with the month, day and year of your
birth like this: mmddyy. You should change your password to something more secure.
You
will have a few days in which to start taking each quiz. But once you start a quiz, you have two
hours to finish it.
At the
bottom of the quiz page, there are two buttons.
The
"Save without submitting" button lets you save your work so you can
take a break and finish later. You
may click this at any time.
The
"Submit all and finish" button submits your answers and finishes the
quiz. You can click this only
once. Be sure to click it before
the countdown timer reaches zero.
Tip #1:
The countdown timer never stops counting down to zero once you start the quiz,
not even when you click "Save without submitting."
Tip #2:
You must click "Submit and finish" before the countdown timer reaches
zero. Otherwise, you may lose all
your work.
Tip #3: You must click ÒSubmit and
finishÓ before the quiz becomes unavailable on the last day. It is dangerous to start taking this
quiz within the final few hours of its availability. (In past semesters, I have seen Web Access cut a quiz off a
few hours too early because the Web Access server was mistakenly on a time zone
other than our Pacific Standard Time.
To be safe, start taking this quiz more than 2 hours before the final
cut-off time.)
Tip #4: If you use a Mac, download the
free Firefox browser and use it for quizzes. (AppleÕs native Safari browser does not work reliably with
Web Access.)
Tip #5: Enable pop-up windows. (Each web browser lets you turn pop-ups
on and off in its own way. But
itÕs usually just a setting in the web browserÕs Preferences window.)
Quiz Grades: All you are trying to do is pick up a half a point for each correct
answer. (Not answering is the same as getting the question wrong.) So take each quiz and answer every
question, even if you must guess every time.
18 out of 20 is 90% (equivalent to an A)
16 out of 20 is 80% (equivalent to a B)
14 out of 20 is 70% (equivalent to a C)
12 out of 20 is 60% (equivalent to a D)
Below 12 is equivalent to an F. But donÕt panic if you do badly on a
quiz. Just try harder to pick up points
in the future quizzes, in class discussions, in forums, or on the midterm and
final exams.
