Outreach Flier

Too many students enter community colleges placing into math classes lower than the last course they took in high school. Consequently, this extends the time it takes students to reach their academic goals, increasing the number of courses taken over their college career. This is discouraging for students when they become community college students. The San Mateo County Mathematics Professional Learning Council (PLC) seeks to solve this problem. Please take a look at the outreach poster created above and use it in your schools and classrooms. More details regarding the poster can be found below.

This is the homepage for the PLC under Cal-PASS. The California Partnership for Achieving Student Success (Cal-PASS) is an initiative that collects, analyzes and shares student data in order to track performance and improve success from elementary school through university. You can find more information about the overview of Cal-PASS on their overview page.

Common Core State Mathematics Standards

Released in June of 2010 and adopted by California legislation in mid-2011, the Common Core State Mathematics Standards (CCSMS) will be phased in nationwide by 2014.

Standards vs. Student Learning Outcomes

The Mathematics Content Standards for California Public Schools K-12 Grade are determined by the California Department of Education as opposed to student learning outcomes which are determined by each institution based on the guidelines provided by the California Department of Education.
