As a young child, if the cartoons on Saturday morning weren't good enough, I would see how high a number I could count to before my parents woke up. I started at UCSB in 1982 as a chemical engineering major, but soon realized that a change to pure math was unavoidable. I applied to Berkeley for graduate school, was accepted, and started in the graduate program in 1986. After a year at Berkeley, I realized that my whole life was spent in school, so I joined the Peace Corps, and lived in the Philippines for the next three years. Upon returning, I audited some classes at Sonoma State (how much math do you think can be forgotten in three years time?) and started teaching at night at Napa Valley College in 1991. I finished at Berkeley in May of 1992, and returned to Napa Valley College in the fall. After moving to San Francisco, I started teaching at CaÒada College in Redwood City and Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, until in 1996 when I was hired to teach full time at Skyline. My goal is that you get the most out of your time here at Skyline. I love what I do, and really enjoy working with students. In addition, I think that math and the sciences are the most interesting subjects that humans have come up with. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you during the semester.
