WebAssign
Homework for this class will be
handled differently than you may be used to. I will make up assignments for
you to work on, but the grading will be over the internet at a site called
Webassign. This relieves me of needless paperwork and allows me
to spend more time with you learning a little physics. You can work at your
own pace and convenience and get feedback immediately after you submit your
work. You can login to Webassign from
any computer with internet access. You can access Webassign from home at any time
of day or night, or, if you prefer, from the Skyline campus where you can
take advantage of our fast internet connections.
Eventually you will need a Webassign
Access Code to view your assignments. You can purchase a Webassign Access
Card at the Skyline Bookstore for about $15 (ask at the counter), or save a little by purchasing the card online directly from Webassign. On the card is a scratch-off strip (like the lottery). When scratched off
you will see your access code -- two letters followed by 10 digits.
- To login to WebAssign point
your browser to https://www.webassign.net/login.html
- Your
username is your first initial followed by your last name,
all lowercase letters with no spaces. (e.g. If your name were Isaac Newton,
your username would be inewton.) There may be some exceptions for two people
who would otherwise have ended up with the same username. If that is the case your username will be your first initial, then middle initial, then last name. I will alert you to this on the first day of class. If you are having trouble stop by my office or write me an email at goodman@smccd.edu. WebAssign will not recognize
your username until I have entered it into the system. I have done that for everyone on
my initial roll sheet, but if you have added the class during the first
few days give me some time to enter your name.
- Your institution is skyline Ð again, all lowercase letters.
- If you are new to WebAssign,
your initial password is the last 6 digits of your College ID. (e.g., if your college ID is G00123456 your password is 123456.) Feel free to change your password to something more memorable once
you are registered. If
WebAssign recognizes your username from a previous class at Skyline, it
will use your old password.
Note also that your password is not the same as your WebAssign access code.
You will use that code in a minute.
- You will be taken to a page
containing a list of classes for which you can use WebAssign. Click on the
appropriate class and you will be taken to a page containing a summary of
assignments for that class. If you are registered for only one class with
WebAssign you will be taken immediately to the assignment summary page for
that class.
- In the Important Announcements
section you will see a reminder to register along with the date that your
grace period for registration will end. Click on the appropriate link to
register. If you already purchased an access code from the bookstore, there
is a link for you to type in that number. If you don't yet have your code
and want to purchase one immediately online, there is a link for that.
- After you are registered, navigate
back to the Assignments Summary page.
The system is very well designed
and easy to use. You will like receiving immediate feedback for all work submitted
-- at any time , day or night -- and reworking any missed questions for further
evaluation. This has been only a brief introduction, so when you login
to WebAssign be sure to read the Guide for further information.
