How
to do Rhythm Development
Sentence
Drills
In the Rhythm Development activity dialog box, click the Sentences button. Simple Speed Sentences should be keyed first, then Difficult Sentences. Each Simple Sentence is keyed four times in the drill. The introduction/directions screen displays.
1. Click the Next button on the toolbar to continue. The drill can be typed from the line displayed on screen. The input screen displays with the first Simple Speed Sentence at the top of the screen and the insertion point in a blank scrolling window below the sentence. If you are using the audio files or the CD-ROM, the Cortez Peters audio begins.
2. Key the sentence by pacing your keying with Cortez Peters, stroke-for-stroke. At the end of the sentence drill, your text is scored (for display later, at the end of the drill) and the program advances to the next sentence.
When the Simple Sentence drills are completed, the program advances to the Difficult Sentences.
Note: Cortez Peters
advises and encourages the student at the conclusion of the Simple Sentence
drills and introduces the Difficult Sentence Drills in one audio segue. Do
not strike any key during this narration. Keystrokes during the audio
segue to the Difficult Sentence Drills will appear in the keyed area of the
first Difficult Sentence Drill.
Continue keying the drill by keeping pace with the Cortez Peters audio. The
drill is finished when all Simple Speed and Difficult Sentences have been keyed.
At that point, the last sentence is scored and the total number of errors for
the completed drill is displayed in the dialog bar at the top of the screen.
If you earned a Rhythm Development certificate, a special certificate displays.
Note: At any time,
you can cancel the drill by clicking the Menu button or pressing Esc. When this
happens, the drill will be marked as incomplete on the Summary Report. You can
return later to resume the drill where you left off (to the beginning of the
first incomplete sentence) or to start it over from the beginning.
After the drill has been scored, a dialog box asks if you want to review scored
text. Click OK (the default) to review scored text on screen or No to bypass
the review and return to the Rhythm Development Drill Menu.
On the review screen, your scored copy appears double-spaced in a scrolling
window. When finished reviewing scored text, click the Next button to proceed
to the Skillbuilding drill.
