Bring for class on May 15, a minimum of a comprehensive outline for White Tiger. You may start writing more if you want. Class will consist of peer feedback plus my feedback. I will aim to look at everyone's outline and offer suggestions. I am not taking home the first draft, but you are welcome to conference.
Late research papers due May 17.
**********************
Forgive me but the reading schedule for White Tiger for next week on your schedule is all messed up.
Here IS the schedule:
Tuesday May 1 - The First Night, The Second Night, The Fourth Morning. Page 1-95
Thursday May 3 - Fourth Night, Fifth Night to p. 96- p. 166
In choosing between whether to assign more on Tuesday or Thursday, I assign more on Tuesdays since you have more time to read it. If you are bit confused when starting the novel we will clear it up on Tuesday but do read it.
******************************
Announcements made on April 12 (you all got this info, but here it is written down):
4/17 - Midterm. Bring your claim evidence outline on your research topic and Justice. Read Chapter 5 "What Matters is the Motive". Exam is open book. Room 2116. Meet directly there.
4/19 - you should have started to write your essay. I will be working on paraphrase and firming up your claims
4/24 - Talk about Kant
***********************
Due April 10:
1) Intro to the research paper - 2 paragraphs at least, one paragraph talking about your issue in general, and one paragraph talking about why you are interested in the project.
2) 10 questions, either integrated into the intro or on a separate sheet.
3) TWO source evaluations, one for each source. Use sheet on p. 46 of online handout book or you may download from this site. See link in handouts column.
Bring your actual sources to class, either as a print out, or as an annotatable word file. You will need to be able to move through sections of your sources.

April 2-6 - Spring Break
************
March 29 - final Justice paper in folder with final draft evaluation sheet, outline and first draft materials.
********************
March 27-29 - meet in library computer classroom. Go directly there. See syllabus for attendence policy. Bring with you your core article (s).
**********
Due March 22 - your core article (or several to choose from), from Human Rights Watch website: hrw.org. You must be able to annotate the document so it needs to be printed out or copied and pasted onto a word file. See Research assignment sheet for details.
************
Justice paper first draft, with outline and folder due 3/20.
**********************
Follow schedule. New unit will be distributed on March 15
*******************
HW for March 13 - Select your topic. Then, brainstorm how your topic may be addressed with each philosophy (Utilitarian, Libertarian, Rawls and Aristotle). Those who were not here during the Aristotle class, you are still required to know the philosophy. Freewrite can be typed or handwritten, written out or bullet pointed. (posted 3/8)
***************************.
Due Tuesday 2/21 - first draft of Class Matters, as strong a draft as possible, with outline and in folder. Typed. Be ready for peer group.
Due Thursday 2/23 - HW for Chapter 2 - "Utilitarianism". Make sure you know the difference between Bentham and John Stuart Mill. I don't believe that is in the HW prompt or questions. Make sure you know the study questions. As announced 2/16, you may answer the study questions for HW provided that 1) you write in your own words and 2) that the responses are as substantial as if you did the prompts. Or you may do the prompts provided (a little more intuative).
****************************
I handed out the new version of the Justice Paper today. See link if you did not get a copy. Follow the online handbook for the Justice homework. Remember that the questions are just for study and the homework is the prompt where it asks you to do several paragraphs. The first Justice HW is due this Thursday 2/16. The first draft of the Class Matters papers is due 2/21. I will clear up any questions regarding the first draft on 2/16. Follow the schedule on the syllabus. We are right on track.
Note: as announced in class, I have on my links page, a link to Bill Moyers Journal and Too Much, both websites which deal with class.
************************
Class Matters is on reserve at the library.
************************
See schedule for due dates and details. Essay by Paul Tough and critical responses and assignment sheets are in online handbook. 2 other essays are from Class Matters.
