ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS

 

 

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the San Mateo County Community College District (“District”) of San Mateo, California, acting through its Governing Board, hereinafter referred to as the District, will accept sealed bids for the award of the contract for the following public work:

BUILDING 7 MODERNIZATION PROJECT

SKYLINE COLLEGE

SAN BRUNO, CALIFORNIA

 

Each bid must conform to and be responsive to the contract documents and be submitted on a form furnished by the District.  Bids can only be submitted by those B Licensed contractors who have been pre-qualified with the District, as reflected on the District’s website: http://www.smccd.edu/accounts/facilities/planconstruct/ContractoPrequaledFirms_01.html, and listed here:

 

Description of the work.  The Work generally consists of the Modernization of Building 7 to support Skyline’s Allied Health Department.  The scope of work includes primarily interior renovations but includes voluntary partial structural alterations, new roofing and exterior painting.  General work includes demolition and new floor plan configurations with new finishes and HVAC systems for classrooms, support spaces and offices to meet program requirements to support miscellaneous science, math, physics, healthcare and bio manufacturing course work.

Labor Compliance: This is a construction project in accordance with Section 1771.5 of the California Labor Code.

 

Prevailing Wage: The successful bidder shall be required to pay its workers on this project a sum not less than the general prevailing wage rate of per diem wages and not less than the general prevailing rate for holiday and overtime work for work of a similar character in the locality in which the project is performed as provided under California Labor Code section 1770 et sec. The District has determined the prevailing rate of per diem wages and the general prevailing rate for holidays and overtime work in the locality in which this project is to be performed for each craft, classification or type of work needed to execute the work.

 

Contractor shall be required to post, at each job site, a copy of such prevailing rate of per diem wages as determined by the Director of the California Department of Industrial Relations.

 

SUBSTITUTION OF SECURITIES.  District will permit successful Bidder to substitute securities for retention monies withheld to ensure performance of Contract, as set forth in Document 00680 (Escrow Agreement for Security Deposits in Lieu of Retention), in accordance with California Public Contract Code, Section 22300.  By this reference, Document 00680 (Escrow Agreement for Security Deposits in Lieu of Retention) is incorporated in full in this Document 00100.

RESTRICTIONS ON SUBSTITUTIONS AND SOLE SOURCE ITEMS.  As a limitation on Bidder's privilege to substitute “or equal” items, District has found that certain items are designated as District standards and certain items are designated to match existing items in use on a particular public improvement either completed or in the course of completion or are available from one source.  As to such items, District will not permit substitution.  Such items are described in the Bidding Documents.

Procurement of bidding documents: The District will not be a distribution point for plans. Each pre-qualified contractor may obtain two complete sets of bid documents free of charge from Elite Reprographics. Others may obtain copies of bid documents upon payment of a non-refundable fee to Elite Reprographics starting 8:00AM Friday April 27, 2007 by calling 415.957.1234 or through their internet website at http://www.eliterepro.com/public.htm.  Request “Building 7 Modernization” documents for printing.  Documents will also be available in the following Bay Area plan rooms:

A MAndatory Pre‑Bid Conference will be held at 2:00PM on May 8, 2007 OR 2:00PM  on May 15, 2007   in the office of Swinerton Management & Consulting  at 3300 College Drive, Building 12, San Bruno, CA 94066. Prospective bidders are required to attend only one pre-bid conference. Prospective subcontractors and vendors are encouraged to attend.  Interested parties are advised to arrive early in order to park and obtain a parking pass from the front desk of Building 12.  Doors will be locked at fifteen minutes after the start of the pre-bid conferences.
