Subject: Construction Notice - Heating and Hot Water Line Repairs

Hello folks – it’s Richard ‘the Scrooge’ once again this year – we want to take advantage of the Christmas and New Year holiday break to make some repairs to the underground hot water piping system to Buildings 2 and 3. This will result in a better hot water delivery system for building heat and sink hot water to those two buildings and Preston Pipelines will be the contractor on campus.
Work will be getting started on Wednesday, December 20 and could last through Monday, January 15. There will be impacts -
a. Parking Lot 3 will be closed during this entire period. Staff and faculty are asked to park in Staff Lot 1.
b. There will be NO HEAT nor sink hot water from January 2 thru January 5 in Buildings 2 and 3 only. We don’t know precisely what dates/times during that period at present and will get better forecasts once the work gets underway. The rainy weather conditions this time of year is making it difficult to predict the schedule of the underground work needed.
c. The paved areas directly in front of the loading docks to Building 2 and Building 1 (Ceramics side only) will be closed.
d. The samTrans bus transient zone will be closed. All bus routes (121, 123, 140) serving campus will be making stops for drop-off/pick-up along the Loop Road very close to the bus stop area. In the case of bus routes 121 and 123, the swing gates on the Loop Road by Building 5 will be open for those bus lines to circumvent and exit campus. The swing gates will close again at the conclusion of this project.
I apologize for the inconvenience this will pose for those of you working during that period. If you have questions, you can contact Zak Conway (Skyline Swinerton) at 738-7042 or conwayz@smccd.eud or Bijan Beigi (District Swinerton) at 378-7331 or beigib@smccd.edu.
On behalf of your Facilities Team - please have a merry and safe Holiday Season. Take care -
