Subject: Construction Notice - Permanent Closure of Sidewalk - Front of Bldg 5

Hi everyone – couldn’t let you get away for the Summer without one last Construction Notice – this one is a ‘biggy’ – and will sting somewhat.

As you might know, the footprint for the loading dock to our new Building 6 sort of joins the corner of Building 5 and its loading dock area.  Hensel Phelps will begin construction of the Building 6 loading dock area next week.

Beginning next Tuesday, May 30 and forever more . . . there will be no walkway on the northern front half of Building 5 between Building 5 (Library) and Building 6 (Student Support and Community Services Center).

This means the asphalt pathway in front of Building 5 (the northern half) will have to be closed and will not be a useable pedestrian walkway.  In other words, when you come out the front entrance doors of Building 5, you have to turn to the left to get anywhere.  Similarly, if you are walking from Staff Lot 6, or Student Lot 5, or Visitor Lot 7, or Pacific Heights, or the Loma Chica School area . . . you have to walk behind Building 5 to enter main campus.

Please see the attached map file for clarity – I can be awfully confusing at times and I apologize.

Even after the construction of our Building 6 is completed, there will not be a throughway between Building 6 and Building 5 at the northern halves of each building.  The new campus gateway between our Building 6 and Building 7A (Science Annex) will be the main thoroughfare for pedestrian traffic.

On behalf of your Skyline Facilities Team, we hope you have a wonderful Summer, and look forward to working together again next academic year.

Thanks -

Take care – and please be safe around all the construction on campus.
