ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the San Mateo County Community College District (the District) of San Mateo, CA., acting through its Governing Board, hereinafter the District, will accept sealed bids for the award of the contract for the following public work:

Districtwide Flooring Unit Price Contract

San Mateo County Community College District

San Mateo, CALIFORNIA

Each bid must conform to and be responsive to the contract documents and be submitted on a form furnished by the District.  Bids can only be submitted by those C15 licensed contractors who have been pre-qualified are eligible to bid on this contract

Description of the work.  The Work generally consists of installing flooring in various locations throughout the District.  This flooring may include carpet, VCT, ceramic tile, linoleum, and resilient flooring. Bidding documents contain the description of Work and products to be used.  Existing flooring may need to be removed before new flooring is installed in some locations.  Projects will be located at the District’s three campuses:  Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College.  

Bids due: Sealed Bids will be received by Swinerton Management & Consulting at their office located at 1700 W. Prevailing Wage: These projects will require that the successful bidder shall be required to pay its workers on this project a sum not less than the general prevailing wage rate of per diem wages and not less than the general prevailing rate for holiday and overtime work for work of a similar character in the locality in which the project is performed as provided under California Labor Code section 1770 et sec. The District has determined the prevailing rate of per diem wages and the general prevailing rate for holidays and overtime work in the locality in which this project is to be performed for each craft, classification or type of work needed to execute the work.  Contractor shall be required to post, at each job site, a copy of such prevailing rate of per diem wages as determined by the Director of the California Department of Industrial Relations.

RESTRICTIONS ON SUBSTITUTIONS AND SOLE SOURCE ITEMS.  As a limitation on Bidder's privilege to substitute “or equal” items, District has found that certain items are designated as District standards and certain items are designated to match existing items in use on a particular public improvement either completed or in the course of completion or are available from one source.  As to such items, District will not permit substitution.  Such items are described in the Bidding Documents.

Procurement of bidding documents: The District will not be a distribution point for bid documents. Each pre-qualified contractor may obtain one complete set of bid documents free of charge at the Pre-Bid meeting.  Additional copies may be obtained upon payment of a non-refundable fee to Elite Reprographics starting April 12, 2005  by calling 415.957.1234 or through their internet website at  http://www.eliterepro.com/public.htm.  Request “Districtwide Flooring Unit Price Contract” documents for printing.  Plans will be available upon request through Elite Reprographics.

A MAndatory Pre‑Bid Conference will be held at 9:00 a.m. on April 19, 2005 in the office of Swinerton Management and Consulting  at 1700 W. Hillsdale Blvd., Building 6, San Mateo, CA 94402.  Interested parties are advised to arrive early in order to park and secure a parking pass.  Doors will be locked at 9:10 a.m.
