Subject: Construction Notice - Hazardous Materials Abatement - Building 8

Hi everyone – it’s Richard ‘the Scrooge’ again – we want to take the opportunity when Building 8 will be mostly vacant over the Winter Break to remove some hazardous materials from the ceilings in certain classrooms and corridors.

Work will be getting started next Monday, December 20 and last through Friday, January 7.

In working with the contractors, we’ve asked them to minimal impact, as much as possible, those of you who will be working in and walking through the 1st and 2nd floors of Building 8 during this period.

The order of precedence we’ve asked the contractor to get their work done will be –

·         First, classrooms 8114 and 8116 on the 1st floor  [December 20 thru December 22]

·         Second, corridor in front of the elevator entrance on the 1st floor  [December 23 thru December 26]

·         Third, corridor in front of the elevator entrance on the 2nd floor  [December 27 thru December 29]

·         Last, classrooms 8216, 8217, 8218, 8219, and 8220 on the 2nd floor  [December 30 thru January 7]

Please be assured that there are no health or safety dangers to anyone in the building during this work.  All areas of abatement will be closed off, contained with a negative air pressure double barrier and closely regulated and monitored.  All work will be done under strict EPA and OSHA guidelines by a certified and licensed contractor.  All stages of the work will be monitored and inspected by a certified asbestos consultant.  The air inside and outside the containment area is monitored and tested throughout the work.  Final air clearance testing will be done prior to removal of the containment barriers.

I apologize for the inconvenience this will pose for those of you working and navigating through Building 8.  If you have questions, you can contact me or Gary Marcus (Swinerton) at 738-7044.
