Subject: Construction Notice - Building 8 Not Swinging to Pacific Heights

Hello everyone – as you well know, Building 8 was scheduled to swing to our Pacific Heights Annex, Building 1, and Building 5 over the Holiday Season.  Recently, the College was approached with an idea involving the permanent use of the Pacific Heights Annex, particularly with regard to the Cosmetology program.  The suggestions were determined to be very much in the interest of Skyline College and the Cosmetology program by both the administration and faculty of the affected departments.  In order to pursue these new ideas and opportunities, the swinging of the Cosmetology program would have to be postponed.  This postponement would allow feasibility assessments to be prepared and determinations made regarding upgrading the Pacific Heights Annex and making it more appropriate for permanent occupation.

Soooo . . . .  Building 8, its faculty, staff, programs, and classes therein WILL NOT swing to our Pacific Heights Annex or other locations on campus until the end of Spring Semester 2005.

Our Class Schedule for Spring 2005 has already been published and reflects many Building 8 and other Department classes being conducted at Pacific Heights.  At a quick glance, I noted classes in the following subject areas/disciplines/programs listed with classroom locations at Pacific Heights (PH-XXX) that will have to be moved back to classroom locations on main campus -

Ø       Accounting

Ø       Business

Ø       Chinese

Ø       Cosmetology

Ø       Early Childhood Education

Ø       English

Ø       English for Speakers of Other Languages

Ø       Ethnic and Cultural Diversity

Ø       Family and Consumer Sciences

Ø       Mathematics

Ø       Non-Native Speakers

Ø       Paralegal Studies

Ø       Philosophy

Ø       Reading

Ø       Real Estate

Ø       Spanish

Ø       Speech

Our College Administrators, Managers, A&R staff, Instructional Office, and many others on campus are working hard to make sure accurate information gets out to our faculty, staff, students, and community with regard to classroom location changes from Pacific Heights (PH-XXX) to other locations on campus.

Advisories will be posted on our website, on WebSMART, on SMART, and on other District-wide web-based mediums.  Mailings to students and other types of notification will also go out to our students to communicate the changes in classroom locations.

Your help will also be needed to communicate information to “wandering” students on campus once the Spring Semester gets underway in January.  Please stay tuned for further details and announcements from various campus offices as we get ready for the beginning of Spring Semester 2005.
