Subject: Construction Notice - Buildings 6 and 7A- Construction Start Update

Hello everyone – here’s an update regarding when the construction will get started for our new Building 6 (Student Support and Community Services Center) and Building 7A (Science Annex).  I know many of us are beginning to wonder . . . given the Groundbreaking Ceremony was last month.

The ‘front end work’ of the Design Phase is finishing up nicely and drawings should be submitted in two weeks to the Division of State Architects Office in Sacramento for approval.  After submittal, the review and approval process could take up to six weeks.  Once we receive approval of the plans and drawings, the Building Phase can get underway.

So – this means it could be the middle to end of November before we start to see any construction activity.

Between now and that timeframe, however, we should start to see more and more of the yellow Hensel Phelps trucks in the fenced area between Buildings 5 and 7 as they begin to mobilize their operations and other construction sub-contractors in anticipation of the ‘green light’ to begin construction.

Please be careful as you make your way around campus – in particular the Loop Road - as there are other construction projects in various stages of progress.   Thanks.
