A.A. Degree


Option 1: Web Design
Career Opportunities: Students studying web design at CSM are trained in the following software packages: Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, & Illustrator. Students will also study basic programming in JavaScript, HTML, and PHP. The emphasis in this course track is in design. Upon completion, students will be able to compete for various web design job including, but not limited to, web designer, web content manager, and interface designer.

Major Requirements: 33 semester units
A grade point of 2.0 is required for the major courses.
MULT 102, 172, 177, 253, 274, 279, 392, 395, 397; CIS 111

Choose six (6) units from either the Design Electives or the Developer Electives:
Design Electives: BCST 110; MULT 113; GRA 110/111; GRA 120/121
Developer Electives: CIS 274; 377; 380

Option 2: Digital Video
Career Opportunities: Students studying digital video at CSM are trained in the following software packages: iMovie, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, DVD Studio Pro, and Photoshop. Students will also study filmmaking (documentary and narrative) and screenwriting. The emphasis of this course track is to expose the students to the many aspects of digital video. Upon completion, students will be able to compete for digital video jobs in various industries including but not limited to broadcasting, filmmaking, corporate video, and animation.

Major Requirements: 31.5 semester units
A grade point of 2.0 is required for the major courses.
MULT 102, 177, 184, 187, 192, 282, 292, 387, 395, 397; BCST 312

Plus three (3) units from the following electives:
BCST 110; FILM 155, 160; MULT 113, 392 (Strongly Recommended)

Option 3: Digital Audio
Career Opportunities: Students studying digital audio at CSM are trained in the following software applications: GarageBand, Pro Tools, & Peak. Students will learn about digital audio recording and editing as well as music production. Upon completion, students will be able to compete for jobs in music production, studio recording, as well as audio for film and video.

Major Requirements: 27 semester units
A grade point of 2.0 is required for the major courses.
MULT 102, 192, 297, 317, 397; MUS. 290, 291, 292, 293

Plus three (3) units from the following electives:
BCST 110; MULT 113, 395 (Strongly Recommended)

Transfer Program
Some career opportunities in multimedia/web design require a B.A. degree or advanced training from selected schools. Students can fulfill lower division General education and major requirements at College of San Mateo. See the transfer Planning and Major Preparation Recommendations sections of this catalog. Students should also consult the catalog of the college or university to which they plan to transfer.

Certificate Requirements: completion of A.A. degree major requirements listed above with a grade of C or better in each course.
Total (Option 1): 33 units.
