Machine Tool Technology

 

The College of San Mateo Machine Tool Technology classes are designed to provide the student with the basic skills and knowledge necessary in the machine tool trades, with an emphasis on core machining skills.

You will learn the machining skills required to set up and operate manual and computer controlled machines. You will learn to use hand tools, precision measuring instruments, read prints, and create parts using a computer-aided manufacturing system.

Skilled machine tool operators work in job shops, production, and maintenance shops.
Upon completion of MTT 200 and MTT 755 you should be able to:

  • Think mechanically
  • Be able to read blue prints
  • Give attention to detail
  • Work well with verbal instruction
  • Assume responsibility in organizing your work load
  • Work well under pressure
  • Have acquired skills in the use of hand-held tools
  • Have knowledge in the operation of  the lathe, milling machine, surface grinder, and drill press.
  • Analyze and set up machining operations according to prints, layouts
  • Categorize and select the correct cutting and lubrication fluids used in machining operations
  • Compare measured tolerance limits with micrometers, gauges, and other precision instruments
  • Work with a variety of skilled and non-skilled workers and professionals
  • Take constructive criticism
  • Work well under supervision
